I am sorry that your generation has inherited such a damaged world. I believe people just did not realize that the human race could make such drastic impacts on the Earth. (That is what I hope because I do not like the idea that people have done things that they knew were harmful to others on such a large scale anyway. I'm sure there were some who just thought that what they did would not matter in the end because the world is so large.)
I don't think I had to deal with this idea of the Earth being vulnerable until I was in the seventh grade. I'm sorry you started dealing with it in elementary school. However, there is the hope that once a problem is known solutions can then be sought and applied. My hope is that the remaining generations have the ingenuity needed and the will to be good stewards of this our only home. I read the other day, "There is no Planet B."
